That’s correct. Relocating from San Saba to San Antonio, the Texas Mavericks will bring semi-pro football in a big time way to San Antonio. The team will bring excitement and a new-found interest in football to a very big city that really has no football presence. That has been a shame up until now.
Last Saturday the Mavericks sponsored a combine at a local high school that brought out media and fans alike. Former NFL great, Haywood Jeffries, who owns a semi-pro team himself, was on hand to enjoy the festivities. Boxer Oscar Diaz was on hand also. Mr. Jeffries took pictures and signed autographs for the crowd along with making himself available for interviews. I got a chance to talk with Haywood for a bit and I will put a post up about that talk soon.
The Texas Mavericks will begin play shortly. The team will bring much added excitement to the area. San Antonio needs this football team, and organization. The team will have media people, cheerleaders and run the whole gamut of a football organization. San Antonio will have a chance to come out and support this local football club.
The team is just forming here in San Antonio, but was a force in San Saba for the past few years. With great management and owners the team has hit the ground running here in the city. Success if pretty much assured as the powers that be in the organization put together their organization from the ground up.
I will write about the team and organization. This is going to be very much fun for me and the city as well. I am going to have fun in my position with the team. I also hope they let me be involved when it comes time to pick the cheerleaders. LOL. Below is the link to the team’s website. Check it out and lets get ready for some FOOTBALL!!
