300 million copies

J.D. Robb’s whose real name is Nora Roberts. The first initials are
taken from her sons Jason and Dan, while Robb is short for her last name.

She employees ghostwriters in the same way that Grisham does. She writes the first draft - about 25 - 30 000 words and the ghostwriter finishes the book. Do the math... 6 - 8 books a year, written, edited, proofed, - and then edited with a publishers, formatted in galleys, and then proofed?

7 books x 100 000 words - average writer can write 5000 words a day means that she spends 140 days (28 weeks) of the year minimum writing first drafts, assuming that every book is perfect the first time with no rewrites needed.

Barbara Cartland...

...who had a billion copies sold of 723 books used a similar scheme. Her plot lines were less inventive than Roberts' with some people saying she only had a couple of plots and just changed the names of the people and places for each new book.

The books I'm counting here are a combined total between the Roberts/Robb names.

I'll tale your word for it, Inklings

Being very old school, to me a very heavy output of novels would be 20. Novel-mills tend to annoy me.
