A third undersea cable providing phone and internet communications between Europe and the Middle East has been cut, disrupting 75 percent of the business transacted in this way. Dubai is one of the countries most affected by this outage, and this report raises a couple of interesting questions.
 
First of all, 3 cables being damaged all at the same time seems a bit too much of a coincidence, don't you think? The explanation that the damage was probably caused by ship anchors coming in contact with the cable might be acceptable if only one cable was damaged, but THREE, and in different places?
 
The other question that strikes me concerns a book I just finished called, The Assassins, by Oliver North. The book, supposedly fiction, describes an almost duplicate situation about cutting a communications cable in the Persian Gulf to stop the enemy from passing information back and forth. Hmm. An excellent book, by the way, for anyone who is into lots of adventure and intrigue.
