and what comes to mind? Voting and Choice are two words that enter our consciousness when Democracy is mentioned. When it comes to politics there seems to be a natural polarity of opinion on the continuum of various issues with the Democrats on one end and the Republicans on the other.
Novrmber 15 Update: We call him President Obama Now
Barack Obama received 62,527,406 Votes to John McCain's 55,450,968. The last two weeks of the campaign saw the broadcast and cable network advertising saturated with mostly "negative ads" from the Republican campaign committees, Click:

The Obama campaign staff maximized the use of social networking sites on the Internet,

As other areas of the economy are declining: unemployment numbers are up, retail sales are down; the 94 percent of Americans that are working are getting a break from high gasoline prices (they are now down 55% from the July 4 high of $4.11 a gallon) just in time for the holidays, Click:

The "Big Three" Us Automakers are asking the Federal Government for $50 billion to keep them in business until auto and truck sales pickup. That's in addition to $25 billion they have already received. The Congressional Republicans are raising an ideological fuss about this; they think that the "free market" should rule and that the automakers should declare bankruptcy to shed themselves of their expensive union contracts. The automakers directly employ 500,000 workers, that is one months "newly unemployed worker" number from the US Department of Labor lately. Add another two and-one-half million workers employed by auto dealers, suppliers and delivery companies and that's three million total automotive employment.

What are Americans to think when both parties Presidential Candidates support the same policy, the Senate Bill concerning the production and consumption of energy in the United States? The "Cap-and-Trade" law will create another government regulatory department that petroleum refiners and electricity generators will have to deal with. The added costs that this scheme will create will be passed-on to the consumer.
We have discovered the rationale behind the "C-and-T": ...Processes that should make economic sense at $100 per barrel aren't being funded, says venture capitalist Vinod Khosla we are getting the worst of both worlds- high prices and low investment. Khosla and some economists are pushing the idea of an floor on the prices of oil. Cap-and-Trade would have the same effect, adding a new surcharge to a gallon of gas and a kilowatt hour of electricity. Khosla continues...The certainty of a relatively high price would stimulate enough investment in alternatives, efficiency and new supplies to keep future prices from rising above that level...With growing concern over global warming, a tax on carbon dioxide emissions makes the most sense.
These quotes are from the August 4 Businessweek article "The Real Question Should Oil Be Cheap?" by John Garey
Tax policy can be used by the government as a reallocation technique, a form of price rationing. Americans with high incomes would be unaffected by "C-and-T" as increasing fuel costs still represent a small percentage of their spending, while the rest of us have to make trade-offs because we are spending more money for gas to get to school or to work so going to Starbucks for a coffee becomes something we think about. (Can we really afford this?)
Think Democracy There has been an increasing stream of Propaganda praising the supposed benefits of "Cap-and-Trade" from the broadcast, print and Internet medias. With both Barack and McCain supporting this tax on energy, where are the other ideas on how we can have "Clean Energy" at an affordable price? With both dominant political parties supporting the increased regulation of energy and thus every aspect of the American Economy, who is for We the People?
Barack Obama is in favor of the "Cap-and-Trade" law the US Senate wants to impose on Americans, Click: http://www.communati.com/steve-lee/obama-orlando
John McCain also supports the "Cap-and-Trade" scheme that will raise the cost of gasoline and electric utility bills, Click: http://www.communati.com/steve-lee/more-gasoline-price-pain
