Think Democracy

and what comes to mind? Voting and Choice are two words that enter our consciousness when Democracy is mentioned. When it comes to politics there seems to be a natural polarity of opinion on the continuum of various issues with the Democrats on one end and the Republicans on the other.

Barack Obama received 62,527,406 Votes to John McCain's 55,450,968 in the presidential election. Now we are looking forward to the American Economic Recovery Plan and it's promise  that the new electric cars and renewable energy developments that can drive the US down the road to energy independence.

As other areas of the economy are declining: unemployment numbers are up, retail sales are down; the 92 percent of Americans that are working are getting a break from high gasoline prices (they are now down 60% from the July 4 high of $4.11 a gallon) giving them more money to spend on other things.

Both political parties candidates supported "Comprehensive Immigration Reform," in fact John McCain cosponsored the "Kennedy-McCain Immigration Reform Bill" that millions of Americans wrote letters to their Congress-persons and Senators letting them know that "A path to citizenship" for those that are here illegally (many under deportation orders) was unacceptable. The mistake that Ronald Reagan made in 1986 was not to be made again; no amnesty for illegal immigrants.

President Barack Obama  has named former Congressperson Hilda Solis, Democrat, El Monte, California, District 32 (also known as part of East Los Angeles County) as Labor Department Secretary in his cabinet, Union dollars and precinct walkers helped elect Solis in 2000. Hilda Solis statement at her Senate confirmation hearing:

"My vision of the Department of Labor is rooted in who I am. The fact that I'm sitting before you today as a child of an immigrant family, a working family, is proof that anything is possible."

In California "working family" is a code word that politicians use so that immigrants will know that they are considering their special interests when considering legislation. Hilda Solis co-sponsored a bill to provide illegal immigrants with driver's licenses when she was a California State Senator.

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa "We've got to protect the basic rights and collective bargaining rights that workers have earned for workplace protections that have been completely unenforced over the eight years." (Note that labor laws have to be applied equally, even to employees that are here illegally; or the employers can be sued for discrimination and the illegal aliens can collect damages!)

Obama said when he nominated Hilda Solis as Secretary of Labor that she has been..."fighting for what is just not always popular but is necessary." As examples of the bills that Congressperson Hilda Solis has sponsored:

H.R. 3980: Families First in Enforcement Act "To provide for safe and humane policies and procedures pertaining to the arrest, detention and processing of aliens in enforcement operations."

H.R. 3842: To Establish Dual-Language Education Programs in Low-Income Communities

These are examples of how the elected officials (the Mayor of Los Angeles) in California serve a Shadow Constituency, that is Hilda Solis represents a Congressional District where the majority of residents are illegal immigrants! Although naturalized citizens have the right to vote and elected her and Mayor Villaraigosa they are looking to serve the illegal population and provide them with education and health care (the "Healthy Families" Program that the State of California pays for.) This is a significant expense for the six million illegal immigrants in California that the citizens are paying for. Now that the real estate market has collapsed the Governor and the State Legislature are forced to raise sales and other taxes, Click Link:

Illegal immigrants are exercising their Political Power by holding public demonstrations like the nationwide "A Day Without Immigrants" that was held on May 1, 2006 in cities with "Sanctuary" ordinances, that ban city police from asking people about their immigration status. Massive street demonstrations were held in: Baltimore, Chicago,Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Jersey City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, Phoenix, Portlands Maine and Oregon, Salt Lake City, San Diego, San Francisco and Washington D.C!

Many restaurants were closed on that "May Day" because they were without workers, workers, that as their government representatives say "are doing the jobs that Americans don't want to do." (This is a myth that the pro-immigration academics and politicians started, and that the broadcast and print media have accepted and continue to propagate.)

The recently released Homeland Security Threat Assessment "For Official use Only"  "Terrorists will continue to try to evade U.S. Border security measures and to place operatives inside the mainland to carry out attacks...they may pose as refugees or asylum seekers to try to exploit the generosity of Americans."

With twenty million illegal immigrants in the United States, seven years after the 9-11 attacks, you have to wonder who is being represented in the US Congress.

There is an Americonomic myth that the corporate medias keep repeating that "Illegal immigrants do the jobs that Americans don't want to do." Click Link;

We are going to leave the original pre-Presidential Election article below, if you are interested:

What are Americans to think when both parties Presidential Candidates support the same policy, the Senate Bill concerning the production and consumption of energy in the United States? The "Cap-and-Trade" law will create another government regulatory department that petroleum refiners and electricity generators will have to deal with. The added costs that this scheme will create will be passed-on to the consumer.

We have discovered the rationale behind the "C-and-T": ...Processes that should make economic sense at $100 per barrel aren't being funded, says venture capitalist Vinod Khosla we are getting the worst of both worlds- high prices and low investment. Khosla and some economists are pushing the idea of an floor on the prices of oil. Cap-and-Trade would have the same effect, adding a new surcharge to a gallon of gas and a kilowatt hour of electricity. Khosla continues...The certainty of a relatively high price would stimulate enough investment in alternatives, efficiency and new supplies to keep future prices from rising above that level...With growing concern over global warming, a tax on carbon dioxide emissions makes the most sense.

These quotes are from the August 4 Businessweek article "The Real Question Should Oil Be Cheap?" by John Garey

Tax policy can be used by the government as a reallocation technique, a form of price rationing. Americans with high incomes would be unaffected by "C-and-T" as increasing fuel costs still represent a small percentage of their spending, while the rest of us have to make trade-offs because we are spending more money for gas to get to school or to work so going to Starbucks for a coffee becomes something we think about. (Can we really afford this?)

Think Democracy There has been an increasing stream of Propaganda praising the supposed benefits of "Cap-and-Trade" from the broadcast, print and Internet medias. With both Barack and McCain supporting this tax on energy, where are the other ideas on how we can have "Clean Energy" at an affordable price? With both dominant political parties supporting the increased regulation of energy and thus every aspect of the American Economy, who is for We the People?
