While you may know Gene Hackman best as an actor, you'll want to know him as an author. In his third collaboration with Daniel Lenihan, Hackman is out on tour promoting the recently released Escape from Andersonville.
Kirkus Reviews says: “Absorbing . . . recalls classic American courtroom thrillers from To Kill a Mockingbird to Intruder in the Dust.” The Winston-Salem Journal calls it “A robust seafaring yarn that is equal parts Jack London and Robert Louis Stevenson --- with a touch of Steven Spielberg thrown in."
In the story, Union officer Nathan Parker escapes from the dreaded prison camp, hut then organizes a raid to free his friends.
In Atlanta for a book signing tomorrow at the Atlanta History Center, Hackman told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, "I don't know that I'm really a Civil War buff. We started this project quite some time ago. Originally, it was just supposed to be about the Mississippi River and the riverboats during the Civil War. It just kind of grew from there."

I thought you were joking!
When I saw Gene Hackman as the author, I thought it was a joke/satire....the book sounds interesting....
__________________________Nope, it's real silken
I haven't read his earlier books, so when news started going around about this one some weeks ago, I was surprised as well.

Hopefully Mr. Hackman's Reviews
will be the subject of The Converstation and won't sink like the Poseiden Adventure or make him an Enemy of the State. If it does get bad reviews hopefully they won't be Unforgiven.
__________________________He is one of my favorite actors. He lives in Sante Fe now and believes his acting career is over. He works with his wife in her furniture store, Pandora's.
